Divine Lituragy
May 18 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am
The Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Divine Liturgy is a sacred worship service rich in symbolism, prayer, and tradition. It follows a structured, reverent flow that invites participants into a deep spiritual experience:
- Preparation (Proskomedia): Before the public Liturgy begins, the priest prepares bread and wine privately, commemorating Christ’s life and sacrifice.
- Liturgy of the Catechumens:
- Great Litany: Petitions for peace, the church, the world, and individuals.
- Antiphons and Hymns: Sung responses celebrating God’s mercy and salvation.
- Entrance with the Gospel: A procession highlighting the centrality of Christ’s teachings.
- Scripture Readings: Epistle and Gospel readings followed by a homily or sermon.
- Liturgy of the Faithful:
- Cherubic Hymn and Great Entrance: Procession bringing bread and wine to the altar.
- Creed: Community affirmation of the Orthodox faith.
- Anaphora: Eucharistic prayer recalling Christ’s sacrifice, culminating in the consecration of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ.
- Lord’s Prayer: Recited collectively by the congregation.
- Communion: Faithful receive the Eucharist, symbolizing unity with Christ and each other.
- Dismissal and Blessing:
- Final prayers, hymns of thanksgiving, and a blessing from the priest conclude the service, sending worshippers forth in peace and spiritual renewal.
The Divine Liturgy offers believers a profound connection to faith, community, and tradition, fostering spiritual nourishment and reflection.
